Kenneth Darrah, WWII Vet, Will Be Laid to Rest in Bethel Thursday

A resident of Danbury and father of Bethel residents, Darrah received a Purple Heart and took part in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Kenneth Roger Darrah, age 87 of Danbury, CT died Monday March 18, 2013 at Filosa Care Center, Danbury, CT. He is the husband of Lois A. (Pitcher) Darrah.

Ken was born March 21, 1925 in Cadyville, NY a son of the late Gilbert and Marguerite (Dutton) Darrah. He served as a Marine during WWII. Ken took part in the battles of Guam, Iwo Jima and Bougainville and was a Purple Heart recipient. Ken worked at Harlem Valley Hospital in Wingdale, NY for 10 years before being employed by Barden Corporation in Danbury, CT from which he retired in 1987. He was a member and usher of the United Methodist Church in Danbury. Ken was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW in Danbury. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, archery and camping.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Ken is survived by two sons; Kenneth C. Darrah and his wife Kathy of Bethel, CT and Keith Darrah of Ridgefield, CT; three daughters; Linda Beschle and her husband Gary of Pipe Creek, TX, Janice Grant and her husband Robert of New Milford, CT and Shari Gleissner and her husband John of New Milford, CT; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Lawrence Darrah of Cadyville, NY; a sister Jean Tamer of Cadyville, NY and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters Flora Collins and Hazel Decker and two brothers Gilbert and Clarence Darrah.

Funeral service will be held in the United Methodist Church, 5 Clapboard Ridge, Danbury CT on Thursday March 21, 2013 at 11 AM. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel, CT.
