In Memoriam: James Dolan, 94

Father, grandfather, WWII veteran; his "hearty laughter will never leave us."

James Joseph Dolan, 94, of Bethel, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on February 2, 2013, due to complications from the flu.

Born in Philadelphia, to Joseph A. Dolan and Claire (Von Nemessany) Dolan, Jim was proud of his father who was Philadelphia's Assistant District Attorney. James Dolan was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and a World War ll veteran who served in the Pacific Theatre as Radio Operator where he received the Bronze Star. Retired at 82, he was a Knight of Columbus of Pavia Council.

We all knew of his love for the ocean, which began as a lifeguard in Atlantic City; until a few months ago, he was an avid swimmer at the Danbury YMCA. Theatre goer, sports enthusiast, storyteller, man of faith, he was never without a book, or the New York Times which he often referred to. He entertained us with his show tunes and quoted lines of poetry. Jim's boundless enthusiasm and hearty laughter will never leave us.

He is survived by the love of his life, Joan, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage, his three children Suzanne Healy and husband William, Kathleen Dolan and partner Karen Killeen and James Dolan and wife Andrea, as well as his grandchildren, Anna and Christy Healy. A loving man, Jim was so proud of his family!

Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel, on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Donations in Jim's memory may be made to Ability Beyond Disability, 4 Berkshire Blvd, Bethel, CT, 06801

"Bethel teachers are not only educating students, but when society lets kids down, it’sRead More teachers who step in to fill the gap." Explain to me how an average salary of $60,000 per year for working 183 days during that year and an EXTREMELY generous retirement package (compared to the 240 a year the rest of us have to work) considered "society letting them down"?
