Bethel Business Owner, ‘Entertaining and Genuine Man’ John Piorkowski, 54

John M. Piorkowski, 54, of Bethel, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a courageous battle with liver cancer. He was born in Schenectady, NY on Jan. 9, 1959.
He graduated from Bethel High School and lived in Bethel, CT most of his life. John was married to the love of his life and best friend Carol (Pracuta) Piorkowski on Sept. 29, 1996 on the beach in Rhode Island; they were married 17 years.
With his family, John owned and operated The Video House in Bethel for over 20 years. He and his wife Carol owned and operated the Station Break Bakery & Café in the Bethel train station for many years.
As most people know, John was an incredible golfer. He was also an avid fan of many other sports including the Boston Celtics and the St. Louis Rams. He enjoyed watching the news and sports and doing all types of puzzles and playing games.
He and his wife loved spending time at the beach and going on weekend drives, mostly to find the perfect Sunday breakfast.
In addition to his cherished wife Carol, he will be sadly missed by his stepchildren, Matthew Jancewicz and Amy Dexter and her husband Ryan; his sisters Christine Chapman and Karen McLaughlin and husband Tom; his brother Bob and wife Patty; his nieces Yvonne and Kelly; and his nephew Christopher.
Along with his family, John will be sadly missed by his many friends and relatives and also his beloved dogs, Claire and Julie.
To all who knew him he was a loving, entertaining and genuine man and he always knew how to keep everyone smiling and keep laughter in the air.
He was predeceased by his father Robert Piorkowski, Sr.; his mother, Meita (Start) Piorkowski; and his beloved dogs Abby and Tucker.
The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 10 between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, John’s wishes are to honor the heroic and selfless act of the liver donation by his nephew Matthew Ruopp with help of his wife Jennifer, by donating to the Aaron Ruopp Scholarship Fund. Memorial donations can be sent c/o Diane Hotchkiss, 144 Rockwell Rd., Bethel, CT 06801.
