Anna Levitt, 99, a dedicated mother, grandmother and friend who became a prolific painter later in her life, passed away on Nov. 9, 2012.
Anna was the daughter of the late Tillie and Isaac Kaplan and the wife of the late Louis Levitt.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Ira Levitt and Barbara Harfosh of Brooklyn, NY, and Joel and Barbara Levitt, of Danbury. Anna considered her grandchildren, Lia Levitt of Newtown, with whom she had a particularly close and special relationship, Jessica and Joseph Bittner of New Milford, and Joshua Levitt of Brooklyn, NY, to be the treasures of her life, and her great-grandchildren, toddler twins Haley and Briella Bittner, to be the delight of her final years.
Anna is also survived by her loving sister-in-law, Anne Kroll and her husband, Gary of Amityville, NY; and two wonderful and devoted friends, Nancy Sudik of Bethel, and her physician, Dr. Charles Cahn of Danbury.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1913, Anna lived her near-century of life with grace and generosity, remarkable resiliency and a great deal of wit and wisdom.
For the past 19 years she resided at Hancock Hall in Danbury, where she received loving care from all of the staff and to which the Levitt family is deeply indebted. It was there that although legally blind, she became a prolific and exuberant painter and at her death, was the first and only president of their Resident Council.
Graveside funeral services and burial took place on Nov. 11, 2012, in the Wellwood Cemetery, Pinelawn Road, Farmingdale, NY.
Friends will be welcomed to the Levitt home at 10 Brittania Drive in Sterling Woods, Danbury (please park in designated visitor parking or at the clubhouse) for the Shiva period of mourning from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, through Thursday, Nov. 15, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16. There we will lovingly recall the life and light that Anna Levitt gave to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hancock Hall Recreation Fund, 31 Staples St., or to Congregation B'nai Israel, 193 Clapboard Ridge Road, both of Danbury.
