'63 Bethel Grad, 'Cherwares' Artist Faye Rose Cher, 67

Faye Rose Cher, age 67, of Bethel, CT, formerly of Glover and Wheelock, VT, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 in Danbury, CT. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Downs Hickok in 1991.

Born in Danbury, CT, Jan. 10, 1946, daughter of the late Joseph Cher and Evelynne Fay (Terpening) Cher Barrett, Faye was a 1963 graduate of Bethel High School.

She moved to Vermont, retired from the Department of Social Welfare after 30 years of service and pursued her passion for country folk art, painting on anything she could find and marketing her talents under the name of 'Cherwares.'

She enjoyed sharing her work at various local establishments and was an active member of the Peacham Guild of artists for many years.

Faye is survived by her partner, David Gruenig of Wheelock, VT; daughter, Tonya F. Hickok Cher and her significant other Brian Houghton of Barre, VT; a brother, Stanley R. Cher and his wife Barbara of Woodbury, CT; sister, Laura Cher Homa and her husband Joseph of Bethel, CT; granddaughter, Kristen N. Howell; great grandson, Kameron Cher; as well as nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of her lifetime of giving to others through her work and art, the family asks that you practice a random act of kindness.

Per her request, there are no calling hours or services. The Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT is handling arrangements.
