Bethel United Methodist Church welcomes new Minister!

The congregation of the Bethel United Methodist Church welcomed Karen Cook as their 45th pastor since 1861 at the 9:30 service on July 14th.

Pastor Cook, who prefers to be called Karen, comes to Bethel after serving the congregation of the First United Methodist Church of Wallingford, CT where she served for 13 years.  Prior to hearing the call to the ministry and graduating from Yale Divinity School Karen was involved in many life experiences. Holding a B.A. in Music Education, Karen taught music and was a High School Drama Director for 5 years, and for 10 years she was the Associate General Manager of the Long Wharf Theater in New Haven, CT.

In our search to replace the wonderful Reverend Vicky Fleming, who has retired, we were looking for a strong spiritual leader who was innovative, generous of spirit, time, and talents, creative, organized, and a leader. The new minister would be coming to a church currently involved in seven mission projects: Kairos, Appalachian Service Project, 30 Hour Famine, Heifer Project, Covenant to Care for Children, Off the Streets, and Brotherhood in Action. In addition we operate the Village Pre-School, Fusion Kids Club, and the summer Vacation Bible School.   On the third Saturday for nine months of the year we offer the community a pasta dinner which helps to fund our projects.  In Karen Cook we believe we have found this person. Karen is an engaging, warm hearted, humorous person, who instills a warm passion for Jesus Christ. Intuitive, experienced, a leader. When you meet Karen expect a hug.
