Murrieta Naval Officer Awarded Bronze Star for Heroic Rescue
U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Michael Marchante was recognized with one of the military’s highest honors, the Bronze Star medal with Combat Distinguishing Device. In July of 2011, Marchante, 26, rushed to the rescue of a wounded ally on the combat field in Afghanistan. Read the full story on Murrieta Patch.

Piedmont Teens Turns Trash into Hospital Donation

Two Piedmont, Calif., teens have found a way to keep disposable cables used in surgery out of the trash—and turn them into a handsome donation to Children's Hospital Oakland. Cables containing copper wire are used regularly in surgical procedures. Hospitals routinely throw them away after one-time use. But they can be recycled, these Piedmont brothers learned.
