(This event is rescheduled from 12/10) Byrd’s Book is fortunate to have Bethel author Jerry Brooker here for an evening about his recent trip to Jordan.
Jerry Brooker was recently invited by Patch Adams (see Robin Williams movie) to clown at the Syrian refugee camps in Jordan and to speak at a medical conference about how trauma is passed from one generation to another in the camps. His topic was “The Journey from Ordinary to Extraordinary.” With the slides of his experience, and a discussion of his trip, we not only have the rare chance to catch glimpse of another culture, but we can share Jerry’s experience of the transformative nature that derives from people reaching out to care for those traumatized by violence.
Jerry will share photos of his experience in the camps, one with over 200,000 Syrian refugees, many traumatized, and will give the 10 minute talk he gave to Sunni Muslims in Jordan, followed by questions. He will also read a few short essays from his latest book, “short Stories and Essays: The Musings of a Man Held Captive by His Imagination.”
