Written for her daughter Quinn, when she was a toddler, Ms. Austermann shelved the project for 20 years. Faced with the demands of  single working mom, she was determined to make sure her children’s needs came first.  Encouraged by a friend who read the story last spring, and determined to keep a promise to herself for her daughter, Ms. Austermann worked night and day creating the illustrations over her summer break from teaching. The Sleepy Star was launched in time for her daughter’s 22nd birthday. Ms. Werle-Austermann lives in Fairfield County CT, with her two children, and 100 lb lap dog named Mojo.
