Winter Storm Update: 3-6 Inches of Snow Expected by Thursday

Most of the snow will accumulate Wednesday night.

Today: Periods of wet snow, chilly. High: 36.

The Bethel area will switch back to winter today as a low pressure system brings a period of snow to the region. Conditions will slowly clear out on Thursday, but chilly weather remains for the rest of the extended forecast.

Today: Low pressure will be moving from the Ohio Valley into the mid-Atlantic region today. Periods of wet snow and snow showers are likely through the morning and afternoon. It looks like temperatures will be hovering in the mid-30s, so not much snowfall is likely through the daylight hours. Some slushy spots are likely, especially if the snow moves in fast enough this morning and if it falls hard enough through the day. For the most part, the main roads and highways will just be wet today.

Tonight: The intensity of the snow will increase tonight and with afternoon giving way to evening, temperatures will also continue to fall. Most of the accumulating snow should occur tonight and into the early morning hours on Thursday. With readings falling into the upper 20s, conditions will become slippery tonight.

Thursday: The snow will taper off during the morning and the second half of the day should be dry. Some slick spots are likely for the morning commute, but readings will be rising above freezing. There may even be some breaks of sunshine during the afternoon, allowing for rising temperatures and melting of most of the freshly fallen snow.

Total snowfall by Thursday morning will be 3 to 6 inches.
The best chance to see totals of up to six inches will be across the higher terrain. Since a lot of the snow on Wednesday will fall with temperatures above freezing, lower elevations may not see much snow on the ground until the evening hours.

Friday through Sunday: Chilly, but relatively dry conditions are expected as we approach the weekend. With a mixture of sunshine and clouds, temperatures are expected to remain below normal. Highs are forecast to top out around 40 degrees, with lows close to 20 each day.

Today: Periods of wet snow/snow showers. Highs in the mid-30s.

Tonight: Periods of light to moderate snow. Lows in the upper 20s.

Thursday: Snow, ending in the morning. Highs in the upper 30s.

Friday: Fair skies with cool temperatures. Highs around 40.

Saturday: Clouds, some sunshine, chilly. Highs in the upper 30s.

Sunday: Sun and clouds, remaining chilly. Highs near 40.
