ProAccess may see some changes, DARE program proclaimed officially dead, "Quest for the Best"competition showcased the area's bands and BHS teams reach new highs

NEWS/GOVERNMENT
The Youth Commission is considering turning the ProAccess Teen Center into a Boys and Girls Club, after Director Hilda DeLucia proposed the idea. This week, Patch profiled Dan Carter, a Bethel resident who is running for State Congress. The Bethel Education Foundation hosted its Second Annual Girls' Night Out at the Greenwood Grille and Ale House, which just opened in May. Bethel civic leaders share what they like most about working with the people in town. Golden Retriever/German Shepard mix, Caleb, is DAWS's Pet of the Week. 

ARTS
Bethel High School's Marching Band hosted its Annual "Quest for the Best" competition. Despite some last minute changes that added 10 more bands to the lineup, the event was a great success. Bethel Cinema adds a fifth movie to its showtimes with "Hereafter." 

BUSINESS
This week's "Calling All Job Hunters!" found jobs in Bethel in the areas of retail, restaurant service, office work, child care and more. The Stony Hill Business District held its annual Halloween Pancake Breakfast Sunday morning to raise money for the Ambulance Fund.

OPINION

POLICE & FIRE
Two cases occurred this week that involved marijuana; an attempted drug deal happened at the Target parking lot and marijuana/paraphernalia were found in a driver's car parked on a dead end road. A domestic disturbance and a DUI in Bethel were also reported.

SCHOOL NEWS
The Police Commission officially announced the DARE program dead, but it is looking toward better, more effective programs to promote social responsibility in the school system. The Kids Fire Safety House, a mobile teaching tool, came to the Bethel School District to teach second, third and fifth graders about what to do in case of a fire in a hands-on setting. 

SPORTS
Girls' soccer won 3-1 against New Milford at home, but was beat by Brookfield on Thursday. The field hockey team defeated Newtown on Tuesday, and will most likely make the playoffs with its win against Brookfield on Saturday. Wildcat volleyball continues its winning streak after marking its . However, boys' soccer team ended its winning streak after losing against Brookfield on Thursday. Bethel also hosted the SWC Cross Country Meet that included several other teams in the area.
