Library Making Progress With New System

Bethel Library patrons can expect some restrictions while the new Evergreen BibliOak system is installed.

The Bethel Public Library was closed over Memorial Day Weekend to move over to the new Evergreen BibliOak system. Though originally expected to go live earlier this week, the process is taking longer than expected.

"Although progress is being made, going live with the new Evergreen BibliOak system has been delayed longer than expected," Bethel Library Director Lynn Rosato said in an e-mail update. "Bibliomation staff is working around the clock to get the data moved and tested as quickly as possible."

Meanwhile, patrons are asked to keep in mind the following restrictions as services will remain limited.

  • You will not be able to place holds or renew items online until the system is live.  Please call the Library to renew or request items.

For renewals call: 203-794-8756 ext 3
For requests call: 203-794-8756 ext 4

  • You will not be able to search the new Evergreen catalog. Though some of the links on the Library's website take you to the Evergreen catalog, it is not live.  If you try to search, you will not get valid results.  The links were changed in anticipation of being live on May 31.
  • You will not be able to access "My Account" information in the Evergreen catalog.
    • Once the system is live, you will be prompted to enter your library card barcode and a password.  Your initial password is the last 4 digits of the primary phone number the Library has on file for you.  Once you have accessed your account the first time, you will be required to change your password.
  • The old Horizon online catalog is available for searching. You may access this from the Library's website. Please keep in mind, that this catalog is not live and the catalog and "my account" data is static. Status information may not be accurate.

Once installed, the Evergreen BibliOak system will include benefits such as: enhanced patron privacy (an account password will be required); patron ability to track reading history and create personal and private book bags; more effective searching, yielding more relevant results; and more timely receipt of notices for reserved items.
