Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 55. East wind at 5 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 

Friday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 7pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 43. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thanks to Jane Vizi for collecting all the St Patricks information!

March 17th --- The celebration will start at 9AM at P.T Barnum Square for a flag-raising. We will then march to the Municipal Center for another flag-raising and refreshments will be served inside. 

 

DANBURY will have a Mass at 11AM at Saint Peter’s Church John Feeney and his students will read in Irish. Then to City Hall where there will be a few speeches and a flag-raising.  The mayor will be present at the ceremony Refreshments will be served in the lobby of City Hall.  (Coffee, soda bread)  This will take place right after the Saint Peter’s Mass.

 

The Irish Center will be open from 12 till whenever that night. The Center will be serving corned beef dinners, sandwiches and desserts. The GDICC is located at 6 Lake Ave in Danbury. At about 6PM there will be entertainment. Chicks n’ Sync will be playing. 

 

Tune in to TV to channel 3 on March 16 at 10AM to the show called “Better Connecticut” “The Mighty Ploughboys” are the guest band It will be very interesting to see the boys on this program again this year. This is a local group from around the area.

 

MARCH 25 is the SAINT PATRICK’S DAY PARADE in Danbury. The Hibernians organize this parade every year. 

We will line up at Roger’s Park at 1:30 PM the parade will start at two.  Away we will go down Main Street (or up) to West Street and up to the GDICC Club. There are plenty of parking places in the parking lot to the left of the building.  The parade marchers will be fed free hotdogs, beer and soda at the back of the building. Inside the Club, there will be a Club menu which includes corn beef sandwiches and desserts. There will be entertainment from some of the marchers.

Bethel Youth Wrestling Club (BYWC) announces their first ever wrestling tournament Shamrock Showdown to be held on Sunday, March 18th, 2012 at Bethel High School, 300 Whittlesey Drive, Bethel, CT. Start time is 9am for K-5 age wrestlers and 12:30 for middle school age wrestlers.

BYWC invites the public to attend this exciting tournament and learn more about the sport of wrestling, the BYWC program and cheer on the Bethel Wrestling team.

Free for ages 12 and under, and free for coaches with a current USA Coaches card. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be available on site in designated areas.

All wrestlers will be grouped by both age category and weight into 4 or 5-man brackets. Each wrestler will wrestle one-another giving each wrestler a total of 3 or 4 matches (round-robin) format. Medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place wrestlers will be awarded. In addition, 1st place winners receive a free T-shirt. Emergency medical personnel will be on site.

Byrd's Books and Molten Java will celebrate their Grand Opening weekend with:

 A Ribbon Cutting ceremony with Molten Java coffee shop on Saturday March 24th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luau in Molten Java and several free book drawings in Byrd's Books.

 

Sunday March 25th, 1:00 p.m.: we are lucky to host Bethel author Thomas Craughwell as he discusses his book, "The Greatest Brigade" followed by Tom signing two of his titles,"The Greatest Brigade" and "Stealing Lincoln's Body", in the Upstairs Gallery at Molten Java. 

 

Monday March 26th, 7:00 p.m.: Byrd's Books will host Joseph Farris as he discuses his book," A Soldier's Sketchbook" in Molten Java's main room, with a book signing upstairs in the Upstairs Gallery to follow.

Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach (CDFO) in collaboration with the Connecticut State Dental Association (CSDA) is providing a free dental clinic for underserved and uninsured in Connecticut - The Connecticut Mission of Mercy is affectionately referred to as CTMOM. The two day clinic provides free dental care to the underserved and uninsured in Connecticut – those that would otherwise go without dental care. Oral health is inseparable from general health and can affect a person’s self-esteem, compromise their ability to work, attend school and lead a normal life.

MAR. 17 EQUINE AND PET EVENT: WCSU will host the Agriventures Agway Equine and Pet Event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Feldman Arena at the William O’Neill Athletic and Convocation Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. 1190 - The Crusaders began the massacre of Jews in York, England. 

1521 - Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan reached the Philippines. He was killed the next month by natives. 

1621 - Samoset walked into the settlement of Plymouth Colony, later Plymouth, MA. Samoset was a native from the Monhegan tribe in Maine who spoke English. He greeted the Pilgrims by saying, "Welcome, Englishmen! My name is Samoset."
