Bob Costas and the anti-gun rant on Sunday Night Football

Bob Costas, on Sunday Night Football’s halftime break, decided to go on an anti-gun rant due to the cowardly murder and suicide of Jovan Belcher of the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday the 1st of December 2012.  For those of you unawares, Jovan Belcher shot his girlfriend, the mother of his  three-month old daughter, and then himself on Saturday morning, Dec 1, 2012, apparently in front of KC staff.  He was a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs.  Now he’s dead and his girlfriend is dead and his daughter is parentless.  Such a coward.

Not for nothing, though, is the fact that the KC Chiefs had quite a predicament on their hands from a publicity standpoint, and handled it rather well.  While they spoke against the actions of Jovan Belcher and his atrocity, and did not esteem him or glorify him,  you could still see confusion and sadness in them.  As a person who has had a first-hand dealing with the suicide of a family member, I know the feeling.

Bob Costas, however, decided during the halftime break on Sunday Night Football, to go on a touchy-feely liberal sob-fest, decrying guns and the Second Amendment in America, as if The Second Amendment was to blame for the cowardice of Belcher.  Shocker, here, is that SNF and Bob Costas are both mainstays on NBC.

Costas quoted Jason Whitlock thusly, from Whitlock’s recent article on Belcher’s murder and suicide:

Our current gun culture simply ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.

“Gun culture” is a jab at The Second Amendment.  You see, if that darn nuisance of a amendment didn’t exist, America would be free of guns and blah blah blah.  I have every intention of diving into this little issue further, trust me.

As for Sunday Night Football, NBC, and Bob Costas, let me simply say that after this evening I have no desire to watch you again.  Years ago, my bride and I made an agreement to not entertain any NBC shows except for Sunday Night Football, and have been upholding this agreement flawlessly.  Well, Bob Costas, tonight you just lost me.  And probably hundreds of thousands more.

Stick to football, Bob.  Leave the liberal whining to the Regime’s “journalists”. *cough*

Twitchy is all over this. The NFL and NBC need to pay attention.  We watch football to see physical competition, not to hear a liberal wuss-fest.  I wish Tony Dungy would have chimed in.
