A Rational Look At Our Second Amendment

A rational look at what The Second Amendment really is, and what it is not

Let us take a rational and reasonable look at our Second Amendment, shall we?

Consider this, if you would be so kind:

The Second Amendment was written by men who knew first-hand what tyranny was.  They experienced it.  They fought against it.  They triumphed over it.

In their wisdom and amazing ability to use forward-thinking, they wrote the Second Amendment as a built-in safeguard against the citizens of the future America ever being subject to tyranny.  They did not write the Second to support hunters, target shooters, and private gun ownership for personal defense.  Those things are merely benefits of the Second, and I myself enjoy them, legally and without fear or suspicion.  No, they wrote the Second Amendment so we would never have to know what tyranny was, be it from a foreign or domestic power.

Guns are a part of our American spirit.  The Second Amendment protects our American spirit.

The knee-jerk emotionalism coming out of the tragedy that is Sandy Hook demands that the Second Amendment be rewritten, revised, and at worst, dissolved.  Why?  Did the Second Amendment empower and enable Adam Lanza to be crazy?  Did the Second Amendment make sure James Holmes obeyed it and then go and slaughter innocents?  Did the Second Amendment make Chicago a battle zone?  Did the Second Amendment provide impetus for Nidal Hasan to shoot innocents on Fort Hood?

No.  No, it most assuredly did not.  Not a one letter of the Second Amendment was written for the purpose of death and destruction.  They were written for peace, freedom, liberty, and individual sovereignty.  They were written as a line in the sand against tyranny.

“But, but, but, the Second Amendment was written so State’s could have their own militias!  It says nothing about private and individual gun ownership!  That’s crazy NRA talk!”  Oh.  Really, now?  The SCOTUS begs to differ.

In the anti-gunners’ quest to remove and ban all guns so that Sandy Hook never happens again, (an impossibility), they are determined to attack the Second Amendment and blame it for Sandy Hook.  Tedious.  They maintain that unless a person is in a State-sponsored militia, they cannot own private firearms.  Yet these are also the same people who vilify militias and paint the picture that all militias are white supremacists and out to overthrow the governments of men.  Tedious, again.  They have presented a lose-lose situation, then.  You cannot have a private gun and you cannot belong to a militia.  So…what the hell, then?

Listen to me: The Second Amendment is the crux of the totality of our Constitution.  If every other amendment were to fall, leaving the Second by itself, it would be enough to fight for and bring back our American spirit and our Constitution.  Free Speech?  Pfft.  We can, each of us, easily be censored or jailed into silence.  Indeed, our American spirit can be found in one amendment, and that amendment is, of course, The Second Amendment.

The Second Amendment is not the villain here.  It has killed no one illegally.  Mankind has killed others illegally. Adam Lanza has killed others illegally.

Leave the Second Amendment alone.  Seriously.  It is not the enemy of freedom.  It is not the enemy of liberty.  It is not the enemy of school children.  It is the enemy of tyranny.

Remember this when Tuesday comes around and VP Biden makes his statements about gun control according to this current White House Administration.  Any government leaders that fear the Second Amendment (private gun ownership for the sake of fighting governmental tyranny) is a definite red flag, folks.
