Could You Have Hepatitis C?

Could you have Hepatitis C and not know it? Get tested to find out.

Could you be one of the 3.2 million people the Centers for Disease Control estimate could be living with chronic hepatitis C, but do not know that they have the disease?

Hepatitis C (HCV), one of 5 types of hepatitis, is a disease of the
liver caused by a virus.  It is one of the most common types of hepatitis and a leading cause of liver cancer and liver transplantation.

HCV can cause liver failure and even death if it is not treated, so it is very important to get tested if you are be at risk.

For unknown reasons, 75 percent of adult cases of Hepatitis C have occurred in “baby boomers,” or those born between 1945 and 1965. Therefore, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that anyone born during that time receive a one-time test for HCV.

Call your health care provider today to get tested.  For written information on Hepatitis C, contact your local health district. For residents of Hamden, North Haven and Bethany, contact the Quinnipiack Valley Health District, 203 248-4528 or on line at www.qvhd.org
