Sandy Hook Car Magnet Fundraiser

Sandy Hook Car Magnet Fundraiser. $10 for a green and white ribbon magnet with "Sandy Hook Elementary-In Our Hearts-12.14.12." All Proceeds going to Connecticut PTSA-Sandy Hook Fund.

As a Newtown mom of elementary-aged school children, the world came to a halt that morning of December 14.  After knowing my children were safe in their locked-down school, I could breathe.  However, every moment thereafter has been consumed with thought and prayer for the children and families of Sandy Hook Elementary School.  Feeling helpless and needing to do something, and with the encouragement (and donations) of my fellow mom friends, we created a magnet for cars to show our support and love for S.H.E.S. This magnet is being sold for $10 with the proceeds going to the Connecticut PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student Association)-Sandy Hook Fund.

With a simple Facebook post, the first 500 sold immediately over the holiday break.  Orders are coming in far and wide.  SupportStore.com, the company we designed the magnet with, has graciously offered to sell the magnet on their website for the $10, with $8 being donated to the same fund.  This has helped out tremendously with all of the out-of-town orders.  And we thank them for all their help.

Newtown Public School parents will be receiving order forms for the magnets at the beginning of the week via their child's backpack. In the upper grades, it will be a PTA email blast.

Any other questions or concerns can be directed to SandyHookMagnets@yahoo.com. In addition to the website, SupportStore.com, during the next few weeks we will be in the community selling directly, and will update this post with specifics.

Thank you all for the endless amount of love and support for our sweet community.

Well, this is great news that a local venue is picking this up! It's great to know that the Newtown Bee purchased my design and is now distributing. I will contact Sherri to ensure the proceeds are going to the same fund, Connecticut PTSA-Sandy Hook Fund. If not, that will need to be disclosed to customers to avoid any confusion. Thank you for the info!

Readers: I contacted Sherri as the above reader commented, and the magnets she is selling are not going to the same fund. Albeit, they are going to a fund to support Sandy Hook, which is always a good thing! There is a reason I disclosed my full name in this blog, it is to hold me accountable that the proceeds from the magnet I am selling are going to the fund I designated: Connecticut PTSA-Sandy Hook Fund. With fundraising scams and anonymous commentary, it is my responsibilty for people to know where their money is going. I am happy to annouce that our local shop, Queen Street Gifts & Treats at 6 Queen Street, Newtown has offered to sell the magnets beginning Tuesday. Together we will get these on all cars, showing our love and support. Thanks to everyone!

I'm Aimee Hansen, the Customer Service Manager with SupportStore.com. I wanted to leave a quick note to let you know how honored we are to be able to help not only the community of Newtown but also all those around the country whom this tragedy touched raise money and join together to show support for Sandy Hook Elementary. People from at least 33 states have purchased these ribbons to display on their cars raising over $5,000 to date for the Connecticut PTSA-Sandy Hook Fund. Our prayers go out to you all.

I think these magnets are fantastic! You go Chrissy girl! It is important to remember that even in a time like this things do not get made themselves. Companies donate their time and effort but there is product costs and employees to cover. $2 off of the top is not a heavy sum. People like Chrissy are reaching into their own pockets and into their lives to make a difference. I hope that many others save their energies to remain constuctive in their relief efforts and keep the criticisms to a minimum.
