Want a Job? Go Abroad

While local jobs might be disappearing, U.S. based companies are growing fast abroad.

The unemployment numbers in Connecticut keep getting worse, with the . It’s a different story overseas.

According to data compiled by FacetheFactsUSA.org, multinational companies based in the U.S. shed 1 million American jobs from 1999 to 2010. However, they added 3.1 million jobs in foreign countries.

The shift in jobs could create some opportunities for workers willing to tolerate more when it comes to holding a job. In the United States, are willing to travel longer distances to get to their jobs.  A super commuter is a person who commutes a long distance to get to a metropolitan area for work. 

A report from New York University’s Rudin Center for Transportation found super commuters rose in eight of the 10 largest metropolitan labor forces in the United States. 

Between 2002 and 2009, Manhattan saw a 60 percent increase in super commuters

More workers are willing to travel all the way from the Boston area to New York, as the amount of people making the trip doubled between 2002 and 2009. Boston, and not New York City, is the fastest growing region for Manhattan commuters.
