Bethel Unemployment Rises with Rest of CT

The unemployment rate rises statewide and locally.

July jobs figures showed a rise in unemployment throughout Connecticut, and Bethel was not spared in the bad news. The town has the highest unemployment all year.

“The phrase ‘worst economic downturn since the Great Depression’ is used so often, we’ve become immune to the words. But they’re true.  So, it should come as a surprise to no one that pulling the country and our state out of that downturn is hard. Really hard,” said . “But let me be clear: we are making progress, and I have every confidence we’ll continue to make progress.”

In Connecticut, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 8.5 percent and the national rate is 8.3 percent.

yet property taxes have been increasing a lot faster than inflation

This is progress, Governor?
--- August 22, 2012 at 12:47 PM
But Gov Malloy, why should any of us seek work when we can easily rely on you and the Democrats to pay for our lives and take care of us? Hey, btw, did President Obama actually come to CT to speak to Connecticut citizens, or did he come here to raise money for his 2012 campaign? I mean, were there no public appearances to bolster the good people of CT and instill his hope into them, or did he come here and simply meet with the 1% wealthy to raise money for his rule, I mean, campaign? And who's paying for the accommodations CT was forced to make for his visit? Exactly.

Panders to Unions, funded by the 1%! 2-Faced?

Congratulations are in order, the Democrat governor and the Democrat-controlled legislature, with their ridiculous tax-and-spending program have pissed on our fire, and there are but only a few embers left burning to carry the tax burden.

how's your boy Johnny The Jailbird doing?

Give me a hint...
Pseudonmyous August 22, 2012 at 03:50 PM
Press Release: Pseudonymous has hacked Governor Malloys computer systems and has found his economic plans for Connecticut. Full details will be released on our server at a later time. A synopsis is: 1. drive Connecticut's debt and unfunded liabilities so high the state has to declare bankruptcy. This allows us to not pay union and non-union pensions. (Gov's personal note: this is sweet revenge for the way they treated me in 2010). 2. stop paying aid to municipalities. All those mandates the legislature requires towns and cities to provide cost a lot, and its not coming out of my budget. 3. increase personal taxes. The rich Bas****s are moving out, we'll just redefine rich to be $1M, then $500M, then $250M, and eventually we'll define anyone making minimum wage as rich. 4. Increase sales taxes. If those rich Bas****s move out, we'll still get their money when they buy stuff in state. Besides, the poor will still pay sales tax and we need lots of money for a police force to keep the poor in their place. 5. And the key item which will save us the most money: A bigger suggestion box. Not enough suggestions got put in the old box, so we didn't save any real money. We need a bigger box so more suggestions will be made. And we need the police to stand by the box and arrest anyone who suggests "fire the Governor". Those suggestions caused the old box to overflow.

mr Murphy, you mean John Rowland? believe he has paid his debt to the state. And he was better at running the state than Gov M
Paul Improta August 22, 2012 at 04:09 PM
Did you not hear? He got out, he did his time, he has a job doing radio, he's found Jesus. I hope he's left the place clean for your boy Donovan and his lackys, or maybe they'll be sharing with former Bridgeport Democrat Mayor Ganim! Donovan down, Bysiewicz gone, Murphy next then Malloy and along with him the gay lawyers Lawler and McDonald, former co-chairs of the Judiciary Committee in the General Assembly, where they viewed every piece of legislation through the gay prism and a lifestyle that constitutes about 3% to 5% of the general population.
Cousin Vinnie August 22, 2012 at 05:50 PM
Paul, you have a problem with gays? We know how you feel about racial minorities.
--- August 22, 2012 at 06:02 PM
@Paul, Were you talking about this Lawlor and McDonald: Raised Bill 1098 which specifically targets The Roman Catholic Church in Connecticut- http://www.cga.ct.gov/2009/TOB/S/2009SB-01098-R00-SB.htm I remember this when it was happening. I simply didn't think I would see a day come when a State government could openly violate the separation of church and state so brazenly.
Sue Polaski August 22, 2012 at 06:34 PM
Hey, CousinV, Excellent job at twisting words. I don't know Lawlor and McDonald. However , I DO know how to read and can understand that the problem is not the orientation but viewing the government and what should happen through a certain prism ONLY. Read it again, cuz
Paul Improta August 22, 2012 at 07:02 PM
Cousin V. - I have a problem with specific people who get into office with a purpose to advance special privileges for themselves above and beyond those of the general population. I don't consider a sexual proclivity to be analogous with the melanin content of skin, and I don't believe if you were to ask the average American of African descent that they would agree with your premise. Finally, yes, I don't like the fact that some unelected judge acted on his own to force gay marriage to be codified into law and imposed on the citizenry.

I have a problem with specific people who get into office with a purpose to advance special privileges for themselves above and beyond those of the general population. sounds like a description of just about every republican elected to office, with the sole mission of increasing the wealth of the top 1%, and screwing everyone else.
Paul Improta August 22, 2012 at 11:26 PM
McMurphy - Yep, that's right, every R is a willing tool of Pelosi, Kennedy, Kohl, Rockefeller, Kerry, Feinstein, Lautenberg, Bloomberg, DeLauro, etc.
Veritas vos liberabit August 23, 2012 at 12:13 AM
PI - is multimillionaire McMahon was has blown over 60 million $ on her ego trip still considering trying to lower the MINIMUM WAGE on our hard working citizens?
--- August 23, 2012 at 12:22 AM
@McMurphy, If it wasn't for the evil 1%, President Obama wouldn't have had a reason to visit CT. It's not like he came here to talk to you. He came for the wealthy Democrat's money. The 1%, indeed. Oh, the delicious irony.
--- August 23, 2012 at 12:25 AM
@McMurphy, Is multi-billionaire Bloomberg still looking to ban salt, soda containers of a certain size, and who knows what next? Oh, wait, he also spent over 100 million of his own dollars to be the Mayor of NYC. Yay for Democrat Nanny-State politics! To spend 100 million dollars is the ultimate ego-stroke.
Veritas vos liberabit August 23, 2012 at 12:27 AM
BHO - thankfully, there are a few of the 1% such as Warren Buffet and George Soros, who are not the typical greedy bigots, and who support are great President.
--- August 23, 2012 at 02:27 AM
McMurphy, You mean THE George Soros who worked with the Nazis to kill Jews, even though he himself is a Jew? THAT George Soros, who, according to this 60 Minutes interview, feels no remorse? And he's a supporter of are (our) great President? Seriously? That's a good thing in your mind? http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2006/10/the_judenrat_so-1.html

"But Gov Malloy, why should any of us seek work when we can easily rely on you and the Democrats to pay for our lives and take care of us?" You local fringe extremists always put the FUN back in soul crushing poverty.

.Jewish leaders expressed outrage at an attack by Glenn Beck on George Soros’ World War II childhood. In his radio show Wednesday, Beck revived an unfounded claim that Soros, as a child in Hungary, helped ship Jews to death camps. http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/rabbis-glenn-beck-fox-apologize-george-soros-nazi-flap-2751423.html

Heres another ass kick for you.... http://www.thejewishweek.com/blogs/political_insider/glenn_becks_monstrous_soros_accusations_rile_holocaust_survivors_jewish
Paul Improta August 24, 2012 at 03:19 PM
Murphy - (Are you the father or the son?) That isn't ass-kicking, it's a skirmish among Jews about who is allowed to call an anti-semite an anti-semite! It's kind of like black people among themselves discussing only blacks are allowed to refer to each other by the "N" word. It also has nothing to do with the topic being discussed. George Soros is a gazillionaire, but liberals want to ignore the fact that there might actually be wealthy people who are liberal Democrats who also hate America. Tell me the last time anyone liberal pointed out only the good with America. You cannot because they'd have no platform and nothing to run on without something to bitch about - usually demonizing their fellow Americans in the meantime.
