Bethel Reacts to Chick-fil-A Coming to CT

We asked, you answered: Will you be the first in Connecticut to sink your teeth into the fried chicken that made Chick-fil-A famous?

When word got out that Chick-fil-A is planning on coming to Connecticut, it generated a good amount of conversation on Bethel Patch Facebook.

Chick-fil-A made headlines when its CEO Dan Cathy spoke about the company’s support of the “biblical definition of a family unit,” including contributions to anti-gay organizations totaling almost $2 million through their WinShape Foundation in 2010. The remarks sparked both protests and shows of support for the chain and its CEO, the son of the restaurant’s founder.

Despite some adverse media attention, Chick-fil-A was named the No. 1 chicken chain in the U.S. in a market study in November 2012.

Today, Chick-fil-A continues to receive both shuns and support. Seven readers decidedly said they would not visit Chick-fil-A.

"I would NEVER support this vile, evil company that seems just as concerned with spreading hate as the (sic) do selling chicken," Kat Bradbury said on the Bethel Patch Facebook page. "Absolutely disgusting!"

Another reader said they're happy Chick-fil-A is standing up for its rights.

"Everyone else stands up for their rights why shouldnt (sic) this company?," Geo Germ said. "I will most definitely eat here. They make the best chicken sandwich!"

Julie Piera said the company can stand up for whatever they choose to.

"But guess what?," she said. "I personally don't have to support intolerant people... Some won't buy A&F...Some won't shop at JC Penney...Others won't support Walmart; who pays extremely low salaries to people, known as the working poor, who then in turn need tax payer funded SNAP and State Health insurance... Guess it's all about what matters most to you!

Will you shun or support Connecticut's first ever Chick-fil-A?
