Some Bethel Residents Might Have Discolored Water Next Week

Affected residents are urged not to wash their cloths in off-color water and to stock up on bottled water.

Aquarion will be cleaning the water mains for the Chimney Heights system in Bethel next week, which could cause some temporary water discoloration.

Crews will be flushing and cleaning the system from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday through Friday next week.

The discoloration is caused by the temporary disturbance of the water flow, according to Aquarion spokesman Patrick McGloin, as the change in flow stirs up naturally occurring minerals.

“Aquarion recommends customers store water in their refrigerators for drinking and cooking,” McGloin said Wednesday. “Customers should also refrain from washing laundry if water is discolored. Prior to resuming use, customers should run their cold water faucets until the water appears clear.”

Residents can contact Aquarion’s Customer Service Department at 1-800-732-9678 with questions.
