Mom's Talk: Mother's Day Memories

With just finishing celebrating Mother's Day and gearing up for Father's Day in June, I turned to my friends and asked them to recall a gift or moment in Mother's Day that touched them.

Mother's Day is the one day a year we celebrate those who gave us everything we needed, healed the boo-boos , changed our diapers, made chicken soup and grilled cheese and the "sick couch" when we were home from school with a bug. Mom cut and pasted the diorama, washed the uniform last minute and dropped off a forgotten lunch at school. We need to thank her and here's how some Bethel kids appreciate their moms:

I asked my friends with young kids one question: what did your kids do for Mother's Day to make you special?

Cathy said: " Ty made me a sun with his hand prints and it said ' you are the sunshine of my life.'"

Kathleen Germinaro said: "Kasey made me flowers made from her hands attached to a green straw and they used smelly markers in it so it smells. Ashlyn a flower with her hands and rolled up tissue paper stuck to it and  a book about me. Brian made me a card saying how great I am."

Chrisse Roldan DeMarta formally of Bethel said: " We built a raised garden planter and painted it together."

Kate Mackenzie, a Bethel alum and mom of three said: "I got three beautiful hand made cards, yard picked flowers and hug coupons. Also a lego boat towing a Mother's Day sign."

Mary Nordmann said: "I had breakfast made for me with a table set up on the deck overlooking the trees. Handmade cards with handprints on them, homemade bag with I love you on it. My kids saying I'm the best mommy and that they love me is the best present ever."

I had a great relaxing day with my family, one of my six chickens laid an egg and we had a fantastic , leisurely dinner at Armando's Restaurant in Bethel complete with Ferris Acres Creamery for dessert. Could not ask for a better day. Thank you Zack and Jake and to my husband, Doug for giving me a special Mother's Day to remember.

Mother's Day really is everyday and we need to remind ourselves to tell our moms, if we are blessed to still have them, how much we appreciate them and all that they did to make us into the moms that we are today.
