Bethel Boasts Family Fun All Weekend Long

An exciting family weekend begins tomorrow.

A festive weekend awaits! A real winter storm is reported for the mid-west, but according to local weather reports, CT is looking forward to nothing more than another damp and cold weekend. Want to make the best of it?

On Saturday, rumor has it (we received a Hot Tip) that the band, Wilson Phillips will be dropping by the Sycamore Drive-In for curbside service in their tour bus. The band is filming a documentary for their upcoming tour. Stop by around 2 p.m. to say hello, and maybe make it into their documentary. The Sycamore Drive-In is at 282 Greenwood Ave.

On Sunday, Philip Martin, owner of Milkshakes and Cupcakes will be making the most of the shop's one year anniversary. From noon until closing, there will be free milkshakes and cupcakes for all.

“I can't believe it's already been a year,” Martin said. “We are celebrating by having face painting and air brushed tattoos all day long.”

Recent visitors will have noted that the shop now boasts red and black booths and a new karaoke stage. On Wednesday, high school senior Caroline Lellouche, 17, was sharing a booth and a root beer milkshake with her mother. Caroline approved of the new booths, and said, “The place is so cute. It reminds me of Grease, and the shakes are so good!”

Martin said that soon Cupcakes and Milkshakes will have Wii every day, and once a month, there will be a DJ, and the shop will stay open until midnight.

“We will also start selling cakes,” Martin said. “We just did a bridal show for Crate and Barrel.”

If the weather stations are wrong, and the winter weather becomes too nasty to venture out, make some hot chocolate, gather the kids around, and pay a visit to Old Bethel via the Historical Society's newly updated website.

There is a new, extensive photo gallery that details Greenwood Ave and surrounding areas from 100 years ago, and more. Hoyt's Hill is featured in a particularly bucolic photo. Click on the link here: Bethel Historical Society.

After you visit the photos on the home page, be sure to click on Photos in the panel at left. There are several galleries.

All in all, weather or not, the weekend promises to be not too shabby. What a great way to bid farewell to the shortest (but feels like the longest) winter month of the year!
