This Saturday, June 21, is ASP day in Bethel. What's ASP? It stands for Appalachia Service Project, a Christian relief organization whose mission is to help low income families in the Appalachia region rebuild their homes.
For the last thirteen years, the Bethel United Methodist Church has sent teams of youth and adult volunteers to these communities as a local (U.S. based) mission trip. The results are life-changing for both the people in the communities they serve and the volunteers who help out.
This year the Bethel United Methodist Church is sending out close to fifty volunteers in eight teams who will arrive in Kentucky for one week of service. They are housed in one of ASP's base camps. All tools and construction materials are provided for the teams, along with three meals a day and plenty of opportunities for worship and reflection. Youth are disconnected from technology for a week which allows them time to focus on their mission.
Youth spend time interacting with the family they've been assigned to serve and learn lessons that will enrich their faith and build character for the rest of their lives.
On Saturday June 21st, the ASP teams are participating in a day of volunteering at the church, located at 141 Greenwood Avenue, across from English Apothecary.

Saturday evening at the church from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Mitchell Hall, they will hold their ASP Pasta Dinner Fundraiser. Tickets will be sold at the door. The cost is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors, $5.00 for kids and a $25.00 family max.
They are also selling Rita's Italian Ice cards for $5.00 each. The cards allow patrons to get 10% off their total purchase.
The Bethel United Methodist Church's ASP teams depart for their weeklong, life-changing adventure on Saturday, June 25th from the church parking lot.
