Rep. Scribner Applauds Nearly $1 Million in State Funding for Ability Beyond Disability

State Rep. David Scribner (R-107) is applauding a $975,000 grant for safety improvements to Bethel’s Ability Beyond Disability through the state’s Nonprofit Grant Program.

The funding will be used toward:

Improving program accessibility, including compliance with ADA requirements for disabled and special needs clients

Improving the safety of security systems, fire safety systems and code work

Expanding community services to meet the needs of existing clients

Purchasing and installing generators to prevent service disruption to vulnerable clients during power outages

Addressing deferred maintenance and building capital needs, including roofing and other renovations

“Ability Beyond Disability provides high quality, person-focused services to those in our community who need extra help in order to lead productive, meaningful lives,” Rep. Scribner said. “This is truly a deserving organization, and a genuinely good use of public funding that will make a real difference in the lives of folks who have unique needs.”

The Nonprofit Grant Program provides grants-in-aid to selected private, nonprofit health and human service organizations with proceeds from State General Bond Obligations.

Ability Beyond Disability was selected based on their application submitted to the Executive Branch’s Office of Policy and Management. In total, more than 146 projects have been selected to receive a total of $20 million in awards this year as part of the program.

Ability Beyond Disability is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization that consists of comprehensive systems of community-based support for people with disabilities in the Northeast. For more information, visit http://abilitybeyond.org.
