Bethel Delegation Hosts Productive Town Hall Meeting

On Tuesday State Representative Dan Carter (R-2) and State Senator Toni Boucher (R-26) hosted a productive town hall meeting in Bethel where they discussed the state’s new two-year budget and answered questions about legislation that went into effect this month.

Following a short presentation, the lawmakers covered a range of topics including the high cost of business in Connecticut, efforts to reduce government red tape, the status of Connecticut’s bond rating and the launch of “Access Health Connecticut,” the state’s public health insurance marketplace.

“There are a lot of changes happening in Connecticut, from healthcare insurance reform to volatile finances, and it’s important to hear from residents about the direction our state is going,” Rep. Carter said. “Thank you to the folks who were able to join us and contribute to a meaningful community discussion.”

"It is important to listen to the concerns of our constituents to properly represent them.  The residents who attended the town hall provided excellent observations and suggestions on state financial issues that affect all of us.  There are deep implications for people and businesses alike.  Bethel residents tell the state that it needs to focus on reducing the cost of living and doing business in Connecticut and on spending less and paying down our debt," said Sen. Boucher.

The next legislative session will convene in February 2014.
