Union Savings Bank Foundation awards $5,000 to Catholic Charities of Fairfield County

The Union Savings Bank Foundation has continued its support for local organizations that address human needs by awarding $5,000 to Catholic Charities of Fairfield County in Bethel.

The grant will help support the organization’s Morning Glory Breakfast program, which provides healthy meals to hungry and homeless residents of Danbury. Volunteers serve breakfast Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House. In addition, members of the program identify and connect program participants with the specific agencies and services that can assist them in ending their homelessness

“Homelessness affects every community,” said Union Savings Bank President and CEO Fran Dattalo. “It is important that organizations like Catholic Charities of Fairfield County be able to continue providing food to residents in need and connecting them to resources that are critical to improving their situations. Without these organizations, the challenges associated with homelessness to individuals and communities would only increase in intensity and reach.”

Established in 1915, Catholic Charities has grown to be one of the largest private family service agencies in Fairfield County. The organization’s mission is to serve the most vulnerable members in surrounding communities through programs that alleviate hunger, support the elderly and those with physical and mental health challenges, provide safe care for children and a safe haven for the homeless, and deliver fair and just services to immigrants – all without regard to age, race, religion or ability to pay.

In one year, Catholic Charities provides more than one million meals to local residents, assists more than one thousand children through a variety of programs and provides more than 150 families with safe and stable homes.

"Bethel teachers are not only educating students, but when society lets kids down, it’sRead More teachers who step in to fill the gap." Explain to me how an average salary of $60,000 per year for working 183 days during that year and an EXTREMELY generous retirement package (compared to the 240 a year the rest of us have to work) considered "society letting them down"?
