Rep. Carter Named Republican Leader of General Law Committee

HARTFORD – State Representative Dan Carter (R-2) has been named Ranking Member of the legislature's General Law Committee by House Republican Leader Larry Cafero.

For the 2013-2015 legislative sessions Rep. Carter will hold the highest appointed position of the Republican Party on the Committee. He will also serve on the Banks and Energy and Technology Committees.

"I am honored that Republican Leader Cafero appointed me as Ranking Member on the General Law Committee as our community prepares to contend with many important issues this year," said Rep. Carter, who played an active role in the debate on Sunday sales -- the committee's flagship issue last year. "I am eager to hit the ground running and work with my colleagues from across the aisle as we seek to improve and protect legislation relating to consumer safety, fair trade, licensing and other matters."

The General Law Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Consumer Protection, fair trade and sales practices, consumer protection, mobile homes and occupational licensing, except licensing by the Department of Public Health; and all matters relating to alcoholic beverages.

The 2013 Legislative Session begins on Wednesday, January 9, at 10:00a.m. Rep. Carter was first elected to the General Assembly in 2010. Following the decennial redistricting, the newly shaped 2nd District now includes a portion of Newtown, in addition to Bethel, Danbury and Redding.

"Bethel teachers are not only educating students, but when society lets kids down, it’sRead More teachers who step in to fill the gap." Explain to me how an average salary of $60,000 per year for working 183 days during that year and an EXTREMELY generous retirement package (compared to the 240 a year the rest of us have to work) considered "society letting them down"?
