Priority Roads Revealed for Phase I of Road Renewal Plan

Tuesday night's Board of Selectmen Meeting.

At Tuesday's Board of Selectmen meeting, First Selectman Matthew Knickerbocker revealed the priority list of Phase I of the Road Renewal Plan for 2011. Roads were chose based on input from both town fire departments, the police department and the highway department.

The list includes 2o roads and one parking lot, which equates to 7.5 miles and about 110 square miles of road. The project is expected to begin early this spring.

Though the approved plan allocates bonding $2 million for 2011, the estimated cost to fix the roads listed would cost just more than $2.6 million. Knickerbocker said, "We may not get to all of them, but we'll do as much as we can until the money runs out."

Now we're up to $2,600,000. Already an increase of over $600,000 from original budget estimates provided by the First Selectman.... This is why the BOF scaled back Mr. Knickerbockers original proposal....This is why they have a hard time trusting what he says.
