Christopher Shays, R, Visits Local Business to Speak with Voters

Earlier this week, senate hopeful Christopher Shays, R, made his way around the greater Danbury Area, stopping in Danbury's Three Brothers Diner, Bethel's New Colony Diner and Newtown's Blue Colony Diner.

While at each of the diners, Shays sat down with voters of Connecticut and explained his plan if elected Senator in the upcoming elections. "My plans are to restore the promise of America and that would include four basic things: continue to put our financial house back in order,  take full advantage of natural gas in America, simplify the tax code to lower the tax rate, eliminating the loopholes, and reduce corporate income tax," Shays said.

Shays said his run for the senate will focus on economic growth, medicare, medicaid and social security. Shays said that in order to bring economic growth to America, the country would have to provide a 4% increase of jobs, leading the economy to double every 18 years.  The economy is currently increasing at 1.6 percent, Shays said.

In the next five weeks before the primary, Shays will have to show the voters what he will do if elected into office.  Dick Baker, who was celebrating his birthday with his wife, Louise, at the New Colony Diner, was asked what he thinks of Shays and the elections.  He said, "It all depends on what Shays is going to do. He needs to get in writing what he wants to do for the people with Medicade, Medicare, Social Security and so on," Baker said.

Concerning the subject of repealing Obamacare, Shays said, "I believe that by repealing Obamacare, we would save $700,000 right away. Huge taxes will be  imposed and the insurance is not afforable." 

Shays said he believes that the way to produce more opportunities for the people of America would be to stimulate economic growth, higher wages, and more jobs.

"I plan on helping with the issue of government spending by getting the spending to be more realistic. Government needs to be 20% smaller. One example would be that for every three people that leave, you only hire one new person," Shays said.

Shays said that for over 100 years, America has had natural energy that is located from the Dakota's to New York.  "We need to be the energy importer using our own resources. It would be cheaper for the people and that would create more industrial jobs," Shays said.

While Shays said he supports renewable energy, he feels there is enough gas for the 80 to 100 years and said, "We should tap into the energy we have."

Throughout his compaign visiting his constituents in Connecticut, Shays said he has always felt that this generation is supposed to have a better life than the last. That is what he said he was taught by his parents, and that is his motto for the elections. 

Recent Quinnipiac polls show that Linda McMahon has led Shays with a 59 to 30 percent lead.
